Global Game Jam 2010

This was my very first time participating in the Global Game Jam, and it was awesome!  The theme this year was the horribly vague “deception” and we also had to include either a key, a monkey or a donkey. We created Mammels from Mars, a strategical 2-player arcade shooter, where you had to befriend your enemies in order to take down the other player.

Play Mammals from Mars!

The game might not exactly play (or look) how we intended it to be, but with the GGJ, it’s all about the journey and not the destination. Staying up all weekend (only a few hours of sleep on sunday night), only taking breaks to lunch, build snowmen or participate in nerfgun deathmatches, churning out a game with people you’ve never working with before. For the first time in the history of the HKU (who accomodated the Global Game Jam) there were too many programmers and too few artists in the house! Finally some fellow programmers to share the workload with! And it also explains the minimalistic space look of our game.
