Luminessence
In the pitch-black, subterranean world of Lucerna, light source are scarce and most valuable! People called Light Seekers venture deep into the tunnel mazes of Lucerna in search of Wisps, little luminescent creatures that are essential for survival. A young Seeker named Asther braves the dark in pursuit of the fabled Tree of Light, an overabundant source of light said only to exist in myths. Armed with nothing but a lantern and a shovel, she steps into the dark unknown. Will she keep the flame of her beloved Pharus village alight?
Luminessence is an action-adventure game with an emphasis on exploration. Everything revolves around the single resource in the game: light. You can use it to develop Pharus, your village, or to advance in the tunnels of Lucerna. The lantern and the shovel can be used for a multitude of actions and purposes.
This concept has been developed as a college project. As game designer, I wrote the design document, worked out the mechanics and did some worldbuilding. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to create a full-fledged game. But perhaps one day…
